Thank you for (yet another) excellent summary and overview. As you note--Australia seems to be trying to criminalize what is becoming first line in other countries which have looked at the evidence. Maybe it is time for Australia to do a systematic review of the evidence, too.

The concept of criminalising conversion therapy is hard for me to relate to. Attempts to change gaps with lobotomised, electroshock. Drugs etc. Gained a bad rap. Especially as it was mostly involuntary. Somehow this has made a quantum leap by applying to voluntary treatment and to *any* attempt by a third party to help the individual change. Even stranger. It is being applied to children too young to consent on the trans pathway.

The implications of lifelong irreversible hormonal and mutilating surgical interventions of children and young people, many of whom are afflicted with an array of mental health disorders will eventually be seen for what it is, yet another medical transgression.

Surely any intervention that might result in a rethink prior to signing off on this dreadful pathway is to be encouraged.

A touch of ‘conversion therapy’ or any other intervention that might trigger a rethink, delay or even avoidance, it to be encouraged.
