The power of Mothers/ protecting her children- Ms. Friday, a lifelong Democrat and Californian lawyer whose daughter used to believe she was a boy, co-founded the non-partisan group Protect Kids California (PKC) with Republican loyalist Jonathan Zachreson. More power to her. 💜

I find this article actually more disturbing than hopeful, and hope that truly transgendered children don't get more lost in the ideological battles of our times.

Before I add the rest of my comment, I must assert that I am not an expert in the area of sex and gender studies, and what I know or think on this matter came from personal communication with Milton Diamond, past director of the Pacific Center for Sex and Society at the University of Hawaii, and also from my personal knowledge of statistics as a researcher in AI.

With this caveat, it is my understanding that gender identity, which includes being either "cis", i.e. having a felt gender identity that is the same as one's biological sex and represents IIRC about 99% of the population, and "trans", i.e. having a felt gender identity that is the opposite of one's biological sex and represents about 1% of the population, may be largely statistically uncorrelated. IOW, to a first approximation, atypical sexual orientation occurs at roughly the same rate among cis individuals as among trans individuals. Put another way, the label "LGBTQ" may be simply incorrect- the "T" simply doesn't belong there.

But as Carl Sagan used to say, "I may be wrong". :)

If this is correct, then gender identity and sexual orientation are statistically orthogonal to one another, and attempts to characterize them in terms of a single statistical distribution are incorrect. Therefore, the label "LGBTQ..." is misleading- the "T" simply doesn't belong there.
