It would be challenging for a physician called to the bedside of a ‘2-spirit gendered’ individual writhing in pain and, I assume, most inappropriate if the physician were to ask “male or female?”
The language around sex and gender is becoming increasingly more complicated and difficult to navigate, and not only in the medical system. I had one person scoff at my criticism of the neo-term 'pregnant people'. He thought that if we knew the individual words 'pregnant' and 'people', we should know what they mean when put together. I would wager that there are many of us who have read phrases, sentences, or paragraphs in our lives where we knew what the individual words meant, but had no idea, at least at first reading, what they were conveying when strung together as a whole message.
Perhaps that person was being disingenuous. Muddied meaning is the effect of this terminology. It's meant to discourage the obvious associations that come with the word pregnant.
Minefield. Great reporting

Worse still if this link were shared https://objectnow.org/debunking-the-two-spirit-myth/
