‘All-cause and cause-specific mortality among transgender and gender diverse people: a nationwide cohort study in Australia’.
The study sourced healthcare and death records (2012–2023) from all Australians aged 15 and above who had initiated gender-affirming hormone therapy and matched to the general population who had visited a GP in the same period.
A total of 19,347 trans people AMAB and 9,713 trans people AFAB were matched with 9,879,037 general population males and 10,282,651 general population females.
Findings: All-cause mortality was significantly elevated for trans people AMAB & AFAB. For trans AFAB, cause-specific mortality was elevated for CV disease, suicide and cancer. For trans AMAB cause-specific mortality was elevated for cancer, suicide & cardiovascular disease.
The increase in cardiovascular mortality in male to female transition is hardly surprising because it has been shown historically in prostate cancer patients given oestrogen.
I doubt this information or the increased suicide risk is given to patients or their parents.
Parents unlikely to be informed; it is an AusPATH policy to withhold poor outcome information:

Consequently clinicians typically do not advise families of documented studies indicating a poor outcome, rather the counselling process is designed to ensure families make "considered and informed treatment decisions through shared understanding, rather than presenting a predetermined negative outcome”.
